It all started when…
The day I was deinstalling my artwork from my MA degree show, I met Neil Rowley, who told me about his plans to establish a weekly wellbeing group using photography as a medium.
Snap and Chat Connect is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming space where people can connect, create, and enhance their wellbeing through photography. The group attracts between 18 and 33 attendees every week, creating a vibrant and welcoming community for people to come together.
Throughout my time with Snap and Chat Connect, I have taken on the role of Workshop Lead. This has led to so many amazing experiences within the community, including heritage walks, studio days, educational and wellbeing workshops, collaborations, team-building activities, and even a photography exhibition at Derby Market Hall in August 2026.
The work I have undertaken within the community has also begun to influence my own photographic practice, encouraging me to explore portraiture and to focus my lens on some of the most interesting, yet often vulnerable, people within our society. As I continue this work, I imagine it will have a significant influence on my identity and development as an artist.
